Tottenham’s group stage points total equalled a record for an English club in the Champions League
Thursday, December 7, 2017
With 16, Tottenham equalled the record points total for an English side in a Champions League group stage.
In addition to the club topping their group ahead of Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, history suggests more good things lie ahead for Mauricio Pochettino’s men.
Both Man United and Arsenal also won 16 points in their respective groups and their campaigns didn’t go too badly, did they?
Man United topped their group during the 2007/08 season with 16 points and reached the final where they beat Chelsea on penalties and made John Terry cry.
When Arsenal reached the knockout stage of the 2005/06 Champions League, having finished top of Group B, the club saw off Real Madrid, Juventus and Villarreal en route to the final where they lost to Barcelona.
